Residential Construction Technology
Graduates of this program will have a great start towards obtaining jobs as:
- Carpenters
- Construction Specialists
- Insulation Installers
- Roofers
- Construction & Building Inspectors
In addition to these jobs, many graduates of this program will continue their training and become Construction Machinery Operators, Cement Masons, Floor/Carpet Installers, Plumbers and Pipe-fitters, Sheet Metal Workers, or Electricians.
The Program:
Construction I
Level I: Algebra I (or enrolled in Algebra I); Introduction to Construction encouraged but not required.
Construction I is the first year of a three-year, 8 credit Engineering and Industrial Systems Professional Education training program designed to prepare students with the skills necessary for entry level employment in the building industry. This class introduces and/or reinforces the following concepts: basic woodworking safety skills, basic math and measurement skills, an introduction to the use and care of hand and power tools in the construction and cabinetmaking industries. Employability skills and habits, basic blueprint reading and drawing skills are taught. Students will learn joinery for furniture and cabinets; layout procedures; basic box construction, face-frame and drawer construction; and finishing techniques (sanding, staining, and protective coatings). Students are required to have their own clear safety glasses and tape measure.
Construction II
Year Two: Construction I

Construction II is the second year of a three-year, 8 credit Engineering and Industrial Systems Professional Education training program designed to prepare students with the skills necessary for entry level employment in the building industry. Concepts taught in Construction I are reinforced and instruction in the following areas is provided: Wood Building Materials, Fasteners, Adhesives; and Hand and Power Tools used in the construction industry. Footings, foundations, floor systems, wall and roof framing are introduced. Students are required to provide their own personal tools*. (Tool list available)
Membership and participation in Skills USA is encouraged.
Construction III
Level III: Construction I, Construction II
Tech-Prep College Credit Available
Construction III is the third year of a three-year, 8 credit Engineering and Industrial systems Professional Education training program and builds on concepts mastered in Construction I and Construction II with continued emphasis is placed on skill development. Instruction in the following areas completes the studentŐs introduction to and training in skills required in the construction industry: Floor Systems; Wall and Ceiling Framing; Roof Framing; Windows and Exterior Doors; Introduction to Interior and Exterior Finish Work, Cabinet Installation, and Concrete Flatwork. Students are required to provide their own personal tools. (Tool list available)
Our program is articulated with the College of Southern Idaho. You can actually earn college credits as you advance through the program giving you a distinct advantage over most of your peers across the country.
