Powerful computers and advanced software applications will allow the students to design a wide variety of products while teaching them to manage the complex files they create.
Prerequisites:
Algebra I or instructor approval, keyboarding recommended.
The Program:
Graphic Communications I
Year One: fall semester
Students enrolling in the Graphic Communications program have access to state-of-the-art equipment and high quality instruction. You will learn by doing in this laboratory intensive program that trains in all aspects of graphic media. Students will learn; Introduction to Basic Design and Composition, Principles of Layout and Illustration. Students will be introduced to digital photography, simple animation and basic web design. Students will be responsible for any consumables while completing personal projects. Software that will be used: Photoshop, ImageReady, Illustrator, HTML, Dreamweaver, Maya (3D) and iMovie.
Graphic Communications II
Year Two: Graphic Communications I or Instructor approval. Spring semester
Students will learn by doing in this laboratory intensive program that continues to train in all aspects of graphic media. Students will continue with Design & Composition Principles of Layout & Illustration. Power software packages including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and/or Quark, Text Edit, Illustrator, Poser and iMovie are used to complete assignments and create personal projects. Students will continue with digital photography and be introduced to video editing, web design and 3D animation. Students will be responsible for any consumables while completing personal projects. College credits available. Software that will be used: Photoshop, ImageReady, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Maya (3D), Final Cut Express, and Final Cut Pro.
Graphic Communications III
Year Two: Graphic Communications II or Instructor approval.
Students will build upon the knowledge and skills developed during the level one and two classes. Students will be trained to a high level of competence in Digital Photography, Digital Video Production, 3-D Animation and Web Design. Class and personal projects enhance learning and allow students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Typical projects would include, but not be limited to, still life photography and production of a video. Students will be required to complete a final project in Web design and one other area of emphasis (digital photography, digital video production or 3D animation).
Our program is articulated with the College of Southern Idaho. You may earn college credits towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Graphic Design giving you an advantage over most of your peers across the country.
