Automotive Service Technology
An exciting career awaits those who complete Cassia Regional Technical Center's Automotive Technology Program. Graduates of this program will have a great start towards obtaining jobs as a:
- Brake Technician Electrical/Electronic Technician
- Steering and Suspension Technician
- Automatic Transmission & Transaxle Technician
- Engine Repair Technician
- Heating & Air Conditioning Technician
- Manual Drive Train & Axles Technician
The Program:
Automotive Technology I
Year One:
This is the first in a series of three courses offered to students who wish to pursue a career in automotive service or a related field. This course will teach safety and the fundamentals of the automotive repair industry. Students will use the latest in technology to learn the knowledge and skills necessary for success in the higher level courses and in preparation for industry placement. Professional-technical student organization membership is encouraged.
Students will be required to provide protective clothing (coveralls and safety glasses) and will be encouraged to furnish personal tools for use in the laboratory. Contact the school counselor or program instructor for a tool list
Automotive Technology II
Year Two: Automotive Service Technology I recommended.
The student will learn basic automotive systems with an emphasis on brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and electronics, and engine performance. Students are required to furnish their own hand tools, coveralls, and safety glasses
Automotive Technology III
Year Three:
Automotive Service Tech. II and teacher recommendation.
The student will learn advanced automotive systems with in-depth hands on training in the laboratory. Additional training will include the use of the latest electronic equipment along with the operation of Hunter four wheel alignment and tire balance machines. Students are required to furnish their own hand tools, coveralls, and safety glasses.
Gone are the days of the backyard mechanic, today's high-tech autos demand repair people who are also high-tech. Some of today's cars have four or more computers that guide their operation. We're providing high-tech instruction.
The Automotive Technology Program will give it's students the knowledge and skills to work on modern automobiles.
Our program is articulated with the College of Southern Idaho and is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). You may earn college credits as you advance through the program giving the learner a distinct advantage in obtaining post-secondary placement.
