Arrival

Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. If you are bringing your child, please do so no earlier than 8:15 a.m.
Bikes that are ridden to school must be placed on the bike rack located on the school grounds.

Dismissal/Leaving School

Students will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m. If you are picking up your child, please do so at the designated area posted on the school grounds.
Students are not allowed to leave the school grounds during school hours unless their parents or someone designated by a parent, pick them up. Students are not allowed to bring notes to walk to town during school hours.

Early/Emergency Dismissal Days

Occasionally it is necessary to dismiss school early because of snow storms or other unforeseen events. Please plan ahead and make arrangements so students will know exactly what to do if school is dismissed early. It is best if you create a plan with your children before such events occur. Talk to your child and establish an emergency routine that the child should follow if they are dismissed early and a parent is not at home. For example, where a key is located, what neighbor, relative or family friend to contact.
We also encourage you to try and schedule your child's doctor and dental appointments around school hours.

Transportation Change

Please notify the office in advance and/or advise your child's teacher if there will be a change in your child's transportation. If no notification is received, your child will follow his/her regular method of getting home. The bus driver will need a note to let students off the bus at a different location.

Attendance

All children are expected to be in attendance each day unless illness or a family emergency arises. Please remember that a note explaining the absence is required after a student has been absent. We realize that there will be instances when your child may be tardy, but please avoid this whenever possible. Tardiness interrupts your child's instructional time. A note should accompany your child to explain the reason for his/her tardiness.

Student Information Form

During registration you will be given an information form to complete. A record of this information is kept in the school office in case you need to be contacted. Please make sure all telephone numbers and addresses are accurate and clearly written. Remember to put the name and telephone number of a person who can be contacted in case you cannot be reached. Please notify the school if you change addresses or telephone numbers during the year. It is very important that our records are kept up to date.

Medication

Medicine, including aspirin or Tylenol, cannot be administered by school personnel. Students who need to take prescribed medication must have the appropriate form, which can be picked up at the office, signed by a physician and a parent before the medication can be brought to school. The form must be left in the office. The classroom teacher will keep medication locked in a safe place in the classroom or in the school office. Students must come to the office for medication if the classroom teacher is absent.

Accidents and Illness

If your child is seriously injured or becomes ill at school we will make him/her comfortable and then contact you immediately. If you are unavailable or cannot be reached we will contact the person you have designated on the child's information form to be called in such a situation.
Please remember, we cannot keep ill children at school. An ambulance will be called if school personnel feel a child is in need of immediate attention.

Weapons

The Joint School District #151 has "zero tolerance" for students who possess on school grounds, or who bring to school or onto property owned or under the control of the school district or to any school sponsored activities, a firearm, dirk knife, bowie knife, dagger, metal knuckles or other deadly or dangerous weapon. Students in violation of this policy will be expelled for not less than one year. In addition, any student who threatens or harms any other student or school district employee with any other instrument that can be used as a weapon will be recommended for expulsion of not less than one year. Any student who possesses a facsimile of a weapon may be recommended for expulsion of not less than one year. Students expelled from any school district for any of the preceding reasons will be denied enrollment in Cassia County Schools for a minimum of 12 months from expulsion date in whichever District action was taken.

Authority of School Officials

Idaho Statutes delegate specific authority and responsibility to school officials concerning the control and discipline of students. School principals have the authority to suspend students from school and/or from riding a school bus, and to recommend for expulsion those students who seriously disrupt the school environment.
Students of the Cassia County Schools are subject to school rules during the time they are being transported to or from school or a school sponsored activity, during the time they are attending school and during the time they are on school premises.

Withdrawal of Students

If you are moving, and thus withdrawing your child from school, please call or come by the school a few days before the withdrawal date. The school needs time to complete the necessary paperwork. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

School Insurance

School insurance is available to all students. A packet will be sent home with each child. The purchase of the insurance is optional.

Homework

Homework assignments will stem from classwork and provide students an opportunity to apply, supplement and reinforce information that has been learned in the classroom. Homework also allows the student to complete unfinished class assignments and to make up work missed during absences.
Homework gives the student the experience of working alone. This allows her/him to develop initiative, self-discipline, responsibility and independence. Homework can also be a vehicle through which teacher expectations, student progress and classroom curriculum are shared with parents.
The relationship between homework and classroom activities is essential. Homework is neither busywork nor punishment.
As a general rule it is recommended that grades 1 through 3 spend 15 - 20 minutes on homework each night. These time limitations are merely recommendations subject to teacher/parent discretion.
A special quiet time and place, set aside each evening for school work or reading for the entire family, encourage good study habits.

Recesses

Recesses are for using the restrooms, getting a drink of water, going outside for some fresh air and getting a break from school work. When the recess bell rings students are to stop playing and come into the building promptly. The students are to go directly to their classrooms --not the restrooms. If a student need to use the restrooms after recess she/he should get special permission from the teacher.
Students are expected to leave and enter the building quietly.

PT Conferences / Report Cards

Communication is an essential part of the educational program. It is very important for parents to keep in close contact with their child's teacher concerning his/her progress.
Conferences are scheduled on the second and fourth, nine-week grading period.
If a parent wishes to confer with their child's teacher other than at the above mentioned conferences, please notify the teacher in advance so that a convenient time for all can be established (i.e. before or after school, during teaching planning periods, etc.).
Report cards will be issued to students at the close of each nine-week grading period.
Report cards will contain both academic and conduct grades. Attendance will also be reported on the report card.

Care of Textbooks, Library Books, Etc.

Students are responsible for all textbooks and library books issued to them during the school year. All lost or damaged books must be paid for by the student. All monies collected are recorded by the school secretary and paid to the proper fund for replacement purposes. If a lost book is found, money paid will be refunded.

Breakfast/Lunch Programs

During the first week of school, all children will be given an application for free and/or reduced priced lunches. We ask that everyone please fill out and return the form, even if you don't qualify. The data is used (anonymously, not even the school know who qualifies and who doesn't qualify) for funding. Based on certain numbers, we might qualify for additional funds that will be used to directly benefit our students.
Students may purchase lunch in the cafeteria or bring their lunches from home. Extra mile may be purchased as the student walks through the lunch line.
Students may pay for their lunches on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Please send lunch money in a sealed envelope with the child's name, grade and teacher's name printed on the front on the envelope. The lunch money will be collected in the lunch room by the lunch room personal.

School Dress

The appearance of a student is primarily the responsibility of the student and the parents. We expect students to maintain an appearance which is not distracting to teacher or other students or in any way disrupts the instructional program of the school. We are also concerned about clothing which may be hazardous to the health and safety of the student. Clothing which is not appropriate for school wear include: halter tops, shirts with offensive language or language which promotes drug or alcohol use, shorts must be modest. Any baseball caps worn to school must be taken off when the child is in the school building. When a student's appearance is felt to be detrimental to the school program, a parent will be notified.

School Volunteers

If you are interested in becoming a school volunteer please call the school and ask for the Principal. Your interest and involvement is always appreciated.
